When emotions dictate our actions without the filter of logic and reason, a damaging cycle can begin:

  1. Emotional Surge: A situation triggers a strong emotional response.

  2. Impaired Judgment: The emotion floods our cognitive processes, making rational thought difficult.

  3. Rash Decision/Inaction: We either make an impulsive decision or become paralyzed, leading to a poor choice or no choice at all.

  4. Negative Outcome: The decision (or lack thereof) results in a negative consequence, feeding back into the emotional cycle, often intensifying feelings of regret, frustration, or despair.

  5. Compounded Confusion: The initial failure can deepen the emotional fog, making it even harder to navigate future challenges successfully.

Breaking Free:

The good news is that we can learn to choose our emotions over triggers and look for solutions rather than cribbing the problems and dragging it all the way with no end.
